About the concert
The mission of the series
Határtalan hangok is a nationwide eight-stop concert and workshop series that presents the rich tradition of Hungarian folk music in a contemporary, live form. Its aim is to build bridges between generations, professional performers and young talents at the beginning of their artistic paths. The 2026 series locations are closely connected to the artistic journey of folk singer Ákos Gubinecz, the creator of the project.
The programme is based on the material of the two-disc release Határtalan férfiének, which opens up the border-crossing richness of male folk singing traditions for audiences. The production combines high-level performance with complex talent development: alongside Ákos Gubinecz and his fellow musicians, the stage also welcomes his own mentees and the students and workshops of the music schools in each host city.
The series is more than a set of concerts: it is a meeting point. In the spirit of openness between genres, some stops also welcome young representatives of related fields, including classical music and world music, creating new perspectives and dialogue between tradition and renewal.
2. The concert
Határtalan Folk Music Concert
The Határtalan folk music concert is an energetic, colourful musical journey built around a shared community experience. The programme is centred on some of the most beautiful pieces of the male singing tradition, accompanied by rich instrumental textures and polyphonic singing.
The concert offers more than a musical experience: it is living proof that folk music continues to live in the present, with us and through us.
What can the audience expect?
Rich instrumentation
A string ensemble, cimbalom, lute, koboz and polyphonic vocal ensemble create a full, authentic stage sound with a modern presence.
Young talents on stage
Alongside the professional musicians, the folk musicians of the future appear in every city: Ákos Gubinecz’s students and pupils from the featured professional institutions.
Local roots and shared production
A highlight of each concert is the moment when students from local music schools and participants of the workshop held before the concert perform together with the artists.
A meeting of genres
At selected venues, folk music connects with classical and world music, for example through Bartók works and contemporary folk-song arrangements, showing the universal face of the tradition.

3. The workshop (song-learning session)
Singing workshop
The singing workshop held before the concert is the interactive community pillar of the programme. Its purpose is for participants to become active contributors to the project, not only passive listeners.
What does the workshop offer?
The experience of singing together
During the workshop, folk songs are learned in a direct, experience-based form, giving participants a chance to feel the strength of singing together.
An open community space
The workshop warmly welcomes local music school students, young talents and anyone open to folk songs and shared singing, regardless of previous musical training.
